The anticipation about The Game Awards has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team is likely crafting a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—traits that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths you can achieve with a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in multiple ways, sometimes in lateral fashion.
